Watch Streep, Hanks in First Trailer for Steven Spielberg’s ‘Pentagon Papers’ Drama

In 1971, the New York Times published on its front page the story of a massive government cover-up that spanned the administrations of four U.S. presidents. The story of the “Pentagon Papers” is now being brought to the big screen in The Post.
On Tuesday, 20th Century Fox and Dreamworks released The Post trailer, which stars Meryl Streep as Katherine Graham, the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, and Tom Hanks as editor Ben Bradlee. The film is directed by Academy Award-winner Steven Spielberg, marking the first time the three stars have collaborated on a project together.

The official synopsis from Dreamworks reads:
Steven Spielberg directs Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in The Post, a thrilling drama about the unlikely partnership between The Washington Post‘s Katharine Graham (Streep), the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, and editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks), as they race to catch up with the New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. presidents. The two must overcome their differences as they risk their careers — and their very freedom — to help bring long-buried truths to light.”
The script was written by Liz Hannah and Josh Singer, who recently won the Best Writing, Original Screenplay Oscar for the highly acclaimed Spotlight in 2015.
Alongside Streep and Hanks, The Post also features stars Alison Brie, Bob Odenkirk, David Cross, Bradley Whitford, Sarah Paulson, Bruce Greenwood, and more.
The Post hits select theaters Dec. 22 before opening nationwide on Jan. 12, 2018.
