Daniel Craig confirmed on Tuesday night that he will reprise his role of James Bond in the franchise’s next installment.
Appearing on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Colbert asked Craig if he would return as James Bond, to which Craig provided an unequivocal, “Yes.”
Craig was in New York doing interviews for much of the day, and had been asked multiple times about returning to the role, but up until Tuesday night’s Late Show, had not provided a direct confirmation.
Craig added that’s he’s known for a couple of months that he would return, but that studio MGM is still finalizing plans.
“We’ve been discussing it. We’ve just been trying to figure things out. But I always wanted to,” Craig added about coming back for another film. “I needed a break [after shooting Spectre].”
The 49-year-old has played the character in the last four Bond films (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre), and the New York Times reported in July Craig would return for a film in 2019. Neither Craig nor the studio confirmed that report until Tuesday.
According to WENN.com, the newest Bond film, the 25th in the franchise, will be titled Shatterhand. Many outlets report the film will be set in Croatia, but those reports are still unconfirmed. The next film has a tentative November 2019 release date.
