In the long history of birthday parties, pretty much everything has been thought of. Visits to petting zoos, going bowling, going water sliding etc… The opportunities are nearly endless and there are thousands of things to do.
But of all the birthday parties out there, I doubt there has been another like the one 7-year-old Parker Cook had. For some reason, Parker has been a huge fan of the retail store Target ever since he was a toddler.
His mother, Kara, remembers fondly their trips to his favorite store as a child. Whenever they would go to the store, he would always get an Icee and happily head over to the dollar spot and get a new toy. In fact, he loved it so much that he would actually get upset when she went without him.
So, with his 7th birthday very quickly approaching, she got an idea. What if she was to not only throw him a Target-themed birthday but also throw it in a Target? So, not knowing if they do birthday parties or not (for the record, they do not), she went down to her local Target to see what they could do.
When arriving, she was wondering if they could get a tour of the back area and let the kids play around on the cash registers, but her request was denied. However, the manager said they could hold their party in the cafe and could remain there as long as they weren’t overly loud or cause any disruptions.
So with everything all settled, she made some creative invitations and handed them out to all children invited. A lot of the parents were surprised at the creativity of this party idea.
Come the day of the party, Kara was nervous, but the management and staff made her feel at ease and was amazingly helpful (and everyone at Target also knew of the party ahead of time). And as it turned out, Kara had many cool and exciting activities for the kids to do at the party.
First of all, the kids all decorated their own custom Target employee badges so everyone could get to know each other if they hadn’t prior. Next, they made some friendship blankets in the signature red and white colors of Target. And then the kids all got some snacks while Parker got his face painted in the style of the mascot of Target, Bullseye the dog.
Then the kids and their parents had a very cool scavenger hunt around the store, with parents leading the way and making sure the kids didn’t get too crazy. After every group finished up the hunt, they were rewarded with their prizes of stickers and an Icee!
And at last, it was time for the traditional blowing of the candles, which Parker happily took part in. Even his cake was Target-themed, of course! Not only was the party a success, it was only an hour and a half long and also was the easiest party Parker’s mother had ever thrown, according to her.
There is no doubt that this was one birthday party that Parker and his friends will never forget.
