200 Year-Old Secret Uncovered When Grandchildren Find Mystery Box In Grandfather’s Attic
How often do you clean out your attic? For most of us, it’s the last thing we want to do. Usually, our storage rooms are cluttered and relatively dull. Dusty boxes, decorations, old clothes, and the list goes on. The longer that life goes on the more stuff we seem to compile.
That’s why our grandparent’s places are always full of pictures and memorabilia from their lives. Sometimes, they even have valuable artifacts that aren’t just considered treasures by them.
The Lopez family recently stumbled upon one of these treasures. From the earliest reaches of their memory, the Lopez grandchildren can remember their grandfather telling them what they thought were simply tall tales from his past. They often involved tales about his father sailing the wide open waters in search of a pirate’s treasure.
One of the stories, in particular, was about his father, Ernesto Lopez, and how Ernesto found the famed pirate Jose Gaspar’s treasure in the Hillsborough River.
The grandchildren knew that Jose Gaspar was a very real Spanish pirate. Even though they knew that he was an actual person, they never actually imagined that their great-grandfather got ahold of the treasure as he said in the stories.
Like most people would, the Lopez children assumed that all of these stories were make believe. One day, however, they found something strangely reminiscent of their grandfather’s stories in his attic.
Prepare to have your mind blown when you find out what it was and what happened next!
First, the grandchildren found a box that fit the exact description of their grandfather’s stories. Inside of the box was an old map of Tampa crudely drawn out on parchment.
What they found next was even more incredible. Inside the box were old Spanish and Portuguese coins. They were still somewhat skeptical, so they had the coins examined by an expert. The grandchildren were shocked when the experts told them these were completely authentic coins from the 1700s. These coins are actually worth something!
The next item found in the box was the most shocking all. It was a completely preserved human hand and it was wearing a ring. The grandchildren have no idea why their grandfather would’ve wanted to keep it, but clearly, it had some meaning. They might never know what that meaning is.
The Lopez family is still in shock after this discovery, and they’re trying to understand what it all means. “Either our great-grandfather made one of the best, most elaborate pirate hoaxes ever and never shared the truth with anyone, or he actually did find some treasure on the Hillsborough River. We’ll never know for sure which is the case,” granddaughter Maria Lopez said in an interview with the media.
At the very least, this story might stop to make you think twice about those unbelievable stories your grandparents have told you. It might be time to go check out their attic for hidden treasures!
