You Won’t Believe What A Simple Offer to Carry Someone’s Groceries Could Lead To
I’m sure there have been some times in life where someone offers to do something for you and in exchange, you give something to them. It happens all the time from window washers in your car to what most people do for 8 hours a day, going for work.
But the example of this exchange we are talking about in this article took place between 30-year-old Matt White and 16-year-old Chauncy Black at the grocery store of all places. Black had asked White if he could carry his groceries out to the car with him, in return for a package of donuts. Black looked fairly defeated, so White agreed to the deal.
But as the two were talking, White had realized how rough of a spot Chauncy Black was in. Black had taken the bus to the store in hopes of getting someone to buy him food as he had no food at home, no phone and a disabled mother who lived with him.
He tried to get a job to help pay for rent, but no one would hire him. He and his mother were struggling mightily, and White decided to help.
White decided to take Black on a shopping spree where they picked out all kinds of food including veggies, chips, cereal, pasta and much more for Chauncy and his mother. The two also talked and Chauncy was a great student with huge aspirations of owning his own business. He also agreed to drive him home, and that is really when he saw how bad they had it.
Not only did the family struggle with paying rent and buying food like Chauncy has said, but their house was barren and they barely had any furniture and didn’t even have any beds.
It was extremely sad and almost made White cry right there on the spot. And before he left, White gave Black a hug that meant more to him than any possession he has. But he realized more could be done for his family.
So White decided to start a gofundme page for Chauncy to get $250 to buy a lawnmower so he could start mowing people’s lawns to make some money for him and his mother. But within 2 weeks, the gofundme had reached an astronomical $223,000, which would all but secure them for almost the rest of their lives.
This money helped them move out of their poverty-stricken neighborhood, bought them necessities like toiletries, furniture, food and clothes. In fact, before this whole thing happened, Chauny had been wearing the same clothing for three years. Not only have people also donated things, they have even come out to visit him.
In life, everyone has their struggles and does what they can to deal with it. Chauncy’s only way to get any food was to essentially beg. Of course, he didn’t want to do it, but it was his only option.
And swallowing his pride and asking for help ended up changing his life and that of this mother. There is no doubt that they never ever forget the good will and generosity of Matt White to not only buy them food that first day but also start the gofundme page that changed their lives.
