You Won’t Believe Where This Man Has Lived For the Last 40 Years
While most of us live in homes or apartments in developed nations, the man this article is focusing on has had a different and an extremely unique living arrangement. Pedro Luca, a 79-year old Argentinian man, has actually been living in a cave for an amazing 40 years. His cave is located in the northern province of Tucman.
As you could imagine, this modern version of a caveman does not have any access to electricity or running water in his little cave dwelling. In fact, the only piece of technology he owns is a tiny battery-powered radio which rarely works due to weak signal all the way up in the mountains. Also, getting food can sometimes cause issues as he lives more than three hours away from the nearest town.
His primary method of gathering food is hunting wild game with his trusty rifle. But when hunting just won’t work, or he isn’t in the mood, he will make that three-hour journey down into the town of San Pedro de Colalao. Water isn’t a big issue as there is a river nearby that he claims has the “purest and richest water”.
If you are wondering how he pays for this food, he receives a pension from the government of about $100-$200, which he uses for food and other necessities. But Pedro has become such a legend in and around San Pedro de Colalao that he often receives food and other supplies from the people in the village. On top of this, he often gets visits from schoolchildren and tourists up to his mountain every so often, due to his fame around the area.
But while this may seem very lonely most of the time, that is not the case. Pedro has some roommates, but they aren’t humans. There are two goats and eleven roosters that seek refuge in his cave each and every night to avoid predators. That must be quite the living arrangement. So why did Pedro decide to take up this unique and unconventional life?
Well, it all began when he was a child. Since he was a young boy, Pedro has always wanted nothing more than to live in the wild. At the age of 14, he left his grandfather’s home to begin to travel and make a living, but he very soon returned and decided to fulfill his dream of living in isolation in the wild. He never asks himself why he chose where he did, but that doesn’t matter as he lives a happy life.
He admits he may have liked to travel the world, but claims that there is a lot of sea in the way between him and there, so he is happy where he is. The man may have no money, no teeth and nothing substantial to call his own, but there is little doubt that he is happier than most people on the planet, and isn’t that all that matters? He has the simple and carefree life that most of us yearn for and most of us are probably even a little bit jealous.
