All-Star Cast Comes Together in Trailer for Woody Allen’s ‘Wonder Wheel’
If one saw the trailer for the upcoming film Wonder Wheel and wasn’t aware of its director, the New York setting and all-star would probably be a dead giveaway that its the latest film from Woody Allen.
Filmed on location on Brooklyn’s Coney Island — and named after one of the area’s iconic amusement rides — Wonder Wheel stars Kate Winslet as Ginny, Jim Belushi as her husband (Humpty), Justin Timberlake as lifeguard Mickey Rubin, and Juno Temple as Humpty’s long-lost daughter.
The film’s official synopsis reads as follows:
“Four peoples’ lives intertwine amid the hustle and bustle of the Coney Island amusement park in the 1950s: Ginny, an emotionally volatile former actress now working as a waitress in a clam house; Humpty, Ginny’s rough-hewn carousel operator husband; Mickey, a handsome young lifeguard who dreams of becoming a playwright; and Carolina, Humpty’s long-estranged daughter, who is now hiding out from gangsters at her father’s apartment.”
Wonder Wheel is notable for being the first film to be self-distributed through Amazon Studios. Jason Ropell, Amazon Studios’ Worldwide Head of Motion Pictures, explained the significance of self-distribution to Variety.
“It completes the picture in terms of our ability to control a film from its inception to how it comes to customers,” he told the publication.
Wonder Wheel, which features Debi Mazar, Tony Sirico, Steve Schirripa, and Max Casella in addition to Winslet, Belushi, Timberlake, and Temple will premiere at the New York Film Festival on October 14 before being released to theaters December 1.
