This Unique and Gorgeous Eco Friendly Chair Uses Items You Would Never Guess
Recently, a DIYer had the idea to build himself a nice new chair. And when it comes to chairs, the world is your oyster when it comes to design and what type of materials you will use to create it.
Well not only did this DIYer decide on a fairly unique design and plan for this chair, he also decided that the materials he would use would be way out of the box as well. Read on and see how this man turned his vision of a minimalist chair into a reality using nothing but some bamboo and corks.
When coming up with the idea, this DIYer didn’t just want the piece of furniture to be beautiful and functional, but also wanted it to be eco-friendly. With this in mind, he decided he would make a lounge chair made out of bamboo plywood and corks.
His first step was to craft a mold for the chair. He would do this by cutting down plain old pieces of wood into a mold, that took into account the natural curvature of the human body to make the chair extremely comfortable to use.
After the wood was cut, the bamboo plywood sheet was laid on top of the mold and the entire thing was vacuum sealed to extract the air. After a day, he released the pressure and his newly molded bamboo plywood was ready to go. Next, he made sure to stabilize the chair so it can maintain the weight of a human being with ease.
After that step, this DIYer decided it was now time to take the hundreds of corks he had upcycled and turn them into a comfortable seat for his new lounge chair. In fact, he acquired nearly 600 corks from a nearby winery and then ran each cork through the bandsaw, cutting them in half.
Then, he began the painstaking process of placing each and every piece of this cork down onto the chair, constantly checking a re-checking his alignment and design as he went. After each piece of cork was glued perfectly into place, his chair was done.
A chair like this would go for good money in a store or craft show so not only did he get a gorgeous chair, he also saved some cash in the process. This piece is sure to wow everyone who visits and uses it, and it cost him nothing but a couple hours of his time and some hard work.
