Tony Tripoli: I hoped Kim Kardashian West would bring Joan Rivers out of her coma
Tony Tripoli tried to wake Joan Rivers from her coma by showing her pictures of Kim Kardashian West.
The head writer on ‘Fashion Police’ – who was also a close friend of Joan’s – even shared a joke with her daughter Melissa about how the ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star’s outfit choices used to always rile her up.
He said: "Kim had been photographed wearing an especially distasteful garment the night before. I said to Joan, ‘You have to see this dress.’
"Melissa and I joked that if anything could wake Joan from a coma it was Kim Kardashian wearing yet another dress that was too small for her."
Sadly, Joan passed away in September 2014 just days after she went in for a routine endoscopy at a clinic in New York but Tony was pleased to see such an outpouring of love for Joan in her last days.
He added to The Daily Beast: "Joan called Rihanna a w***e every week, and Katy Perry, who she trashed – all these people tweeted their thoughts for Joan. Katy Perry wrote that what was the point of dressing up in ‘dumb outfits’ if Joan wasn’t there to trash it.
"[I told her,] ‘Can you believe all these girls we’ve been so rough on this whole time ‘got it’? That part of being famous was being made fun of by Joan Rivers.’
"That was the very last conversation I had with Joan, reading these tweets that really revealed that these celebrities had been in on the joke all the time, and it was fine."
Meanwhile, Melissa previously admitted she is still not "in the healing phase" following the death of her mother.
She said: "I’m not quite in the healing phase. I think it’s coming. I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel but I am not quite there yet."
