Teenage Heroes Don’t Always Wear Capes
Oftentimes, teenagers get a bad rap for not caring about what is going on in the world and being fairly selfish. They seem to care only about themselves and aren’t all that interested in the bigger picture. And while that is a generalization, it is fairly true of some teenagers (and just some people in general)> However, the teenager that will be talked about in this article is much different. In fact, many are calling 17-year-old Jordon Litowchak of Clearwater, Florida, a hero.
It was a pretty regular day for Litowchak, his mother, a cousin and two friends as they were driving around the city on a typical Sunday evening. But soon, something happened that was very out of the ordinary. While they were driving, the family heard a loud splash into a pond that was nearby. Thinking it was an alligator or some other animal, Jordon asked his mom to stop the car. But as he went to investigate the origin of the splash, it wasn’t an alligator at all.
In fact, Jordon was incredibly shocked to see that a car had actually veered off the road into the pond, and was now sinking. Without time for thought or consideration, Jordon leapt into action and dive right in the pond to help. Inside the sinking car was 71-year-old Daniel Vinovich, who has lost control of his car after suffering from horrific back spasms while driving.
Before Jordon arrived, Winowich was struggling to escape the car, still suffering from the spasms. But eventually, Jordon was able to retrieve the man from the sinking car and pull him back up to the surface to safety, which likely saved his life. Winowich was obviously extremely grateful and proud of the young man for his fearless efforts in risking his own life to save one of someone he has never met.
When asked about why he did it, Jordon Litowchak answered in a spectacular way. He simply said that he just had to save him. He didn’t do it for the praise or to receive anything for his good deed. He simply wanted to help and it was a good thing to do, he even claimed that Winowich didn’t need to thank him for his heroic efforts. Of course, Winowich did thank him, over and over, with tears in his eyes, for saving his life.
Jordon’s mother, Tina, was equally as impressed by her son’s fearless and quick action at the pond that Sunday evening. She said she knew she had a great kid, but this really hit her in the heart and showed just how amazing Jordon is. He put himself second, which is quite rare for anyone to do in a situation like this.
This story also just goes to show you that you should never outwardly judge someone for what they look like, their age or anything else. Anyone on the planet can surprise you and heroes don’t always wear capes.
