Spike Lee throws party for prince
Spike Lee celebrated Prince’s life with a street party in Brooklyn last night (04.21.16).
The 59-year-old filmmaker was joined by over 1,000 fans outside his home as they gathered to remember the iconic singer – who had been found dead that morning – by dancing to some of his most famous hits.
Spike said: "We’re all stunned by sudden death, but he’s still here in the spiritual form, and we love him.
"We’re just dancing and singing and shouting!"
Police even shut down the block to accommodate the celebration.
Fans gathered in a similar fashion at Apollo Theatre in New York, while Minneapolis nightclub First Avenue – where ‘Purple Rain’ was filmed – paid tribute to the local resident with an all-night dance party for over 18s.
A Facebook post on the club’s page said: "Our hearts are broken. Prince was the Patron Saint of First Avenue. He grew up on this stage, and then commanded it, and he united our city…Rest in peace and power Prince.(sic)"
A vigil at Leimert Plaza Park in Los Angeles turned into a party as huge speakers blasted Prince tracks while the tearful fans danced along.
