Who Says Dogs and Cats Can’t Be Friends?
Cherry Garcia is a very special pooch. He is a Pit Bull that was rescued from NFL quarterback Michael Vick’s dog fighting ring in 2007. Today, he is spending his time cuddling kittens just like a father would care for his young. According to Bored Panda, Cherry was one of more than 50 dogs that were removed from Vick’s care in Virginia. Due to dog fighting and poor care, Cherry was traumatized but was adopted by a loving home in 2010.
Family Bonding

BarkPost named Cherry “Dog’s Best Day,” as part of their series. For 24-hours the sweet dog was given lots and lots of tender loving care. Cherry was well overdue for some love and attention after all he had been through. Cherry recently underwent surgery to remove his hind leg due to an arthritic knee and surgery has not slowed Cherry down a bit. He is as active as ever with just three legs. Special needs animals are so precious to families, they need extra care, of which, Cherry’s family is willing to give.

Cherry’s parents had this to say in an article for BarkPost. “Cherry’s fans were very supportive as usual. Of course concerned, some had other ideas or things to try, and some were shocked. Some have never heard of this kind of treatment. We have always been an open book with Cherry. We do not hold back and we share real-time views into Cherry’s life. It is not always good, but we try to use every single thing we share as an educational tool. Someone out there might not have experienced what Cherry has and people can learn. We can learn,” said Cherry’s parents.

A Loving Family

Most of us would like to believe that NFL football stars are honest and on the up and up, but not Michael Vick. Vick pleaded guilty in court to the multi-million dollar wrongdoing dog fighting operation which occurred in 2007. He spent 18 months in federal prison and he completed his sentence in 2009. Check out the trailer to the documentary “Champions” here which features sweet Cherry and many of the dogs who were fighters for Vick. In every dark situation, there is always a light at the end of the darkness.
