This Pit Bull Nursed A Kitten Back From Near Death
We have all heard the rumors surrounding pit bulls and how they are vicious and mean and uncontrollable animals that should not be kept as family pets.
Unfortunately, these dogs have received a bad reputation based on negative news reports that have surfaced because of a few bad owners who raised them to be aggressive or didn’t train them properly as puppies.
Gypsy the pit bull has taken a step towards proving that those widely accepted assumptions about the breed can be very wrong. We often joke about how cats and dogs don’t play nice but this adult dog amazed everyone by adopting a 3-week-old kitten.
For full disclosure — the family adopted the kitten — but Gypsy played a huge role in the process.
Gypsy was herself adopted and the family says that from the beginning, they knew this dog was one-in-a-million. She showed nothing but love and care towards her owners and nothing changed once the Desmarais family adopted the three week old kitten that was close to death.
The new family member, who they named Barnabas, was extremely sick and had to be bottle-fed. Gypsy was instantly drawn to the little fella and owner Cheri Desmarais told LittleThings that Gypsy began to “clean him like a mother cat would do”.
The owner goes on to say that she was not at all nervous when the time came to introduce Gypsy to Barnabas.
Gypsy is supposedly great with not only humans, but other animals, even the baby chickens on the family farm.
After some tender love and care, Barnabas was nursed back to health with the help of Gypsy. The pair has reportedly been inseparable ever since.
The family wanted to show how lovable their pit bull was towards the family’s new pet so they created a YouTube.
The video offers some great insight into how pit bulls will act when raised correctly. So much for that vicious reputation they are known to possess. There’s nothing but love among this pair.
In the video, you see that when the tiny kitten snuggles up to the pit bull and tries to grab Gypsy’s ears to play, Gypsy doesn’t even flinch a tiny bit. In fact, you see Gypsy laying calm and interacting back and forth with Barnabas in a very gentle and loving manner.

Gypsy might be one of the most patient and loving pets around and she was fortunate to find the other pea in her pod!
Unfortunately, pit bulls are one of the most misunderstood dog breeds in the world. While they have a reputation for being mean and violent, when raised in a loving home, the breed makes for a very loyal and very sweet family dog.
Now these two best friends get to live out their lives together and that might be the sweetest part of this entire story.
