Leslie Jones has been invited to cover the Olympic Games for NBC.

The ‘Ghostbusters’ actress caught the attention of the US TV network thanks to her lively tweets about the sporting spectacle, which is taking place in Rio, Brazil, and after a fan suggested her commentary would boost TV ratings and inspire Team USA to win more gold medals, she was asked to join the broadcast team.

NBC Olympics’ executive producer, Jim Bell, tweeted her to say: "You’re officially invited to Rio. Want to come? (sic)"

And Leslie seemed impressed by the offer.

She replied: "Hmmmm don’t play cause y’all need me! I would have the whole Olympics pumped!!"

Her ‘Ghostbusters’ director Paul Feig also encouraged her to fly out to Rio.

He tweeted: "Yes, @Lesdoggg! Go to the Olympics!!! Your country needs you to. (sic)"

The 48-year-old star spent much of Saturday (08.06.16) tweeting her excitement about the games, and even donned a special red, white and blue outfit for the occasion.

She shared a video of herself showing off her patriotic outfit, which was complete with a flag over her shoulders and a baseball cap emblazoned with ‘Team USA’.

She posted: "Yep I love the Olympics it’s the only time all countries come together to compete! I love it!! (sic)"

She shared her thoughts on a number of events and competitors, including 19-year-old shooter Virginia ‘Ginny’ Thrasher – who scooped the US’ first gold medal of the Games – and beach volleyball player Kerri Walsh Jennings, and offered her support to swimmer Maya Dirado after she came in second place in the women’s 400-metre individual medley behind new world record-setter Katinka Hosszu of Hungary.

She said in a video: "It’s cool, that’s alright. Maya – we got silver, baby! Homegirl was just going really fast … like, really fast."
