It’s not the same game anymore.
On Thursday, Sony Pictures Entertainment released the first Jumanji trailer for the highly anticipated sequel to a beloved children’s film. Watch:
Though remakes are par-the-course for most of Hollywood these days, Sony is taking Jumanji down a different jungle path. It’s a modern version of the original 1995 film, which starred Robin Williams, and revolved around a board game coming to life. This time around, the game is digital and sucks the players into the dangerous jungle world.
The new film sees a band of detention-bound students stumble upon a video game console in the basement of their school. When they turn the game on and choose the character they want to be, it transports them into the game to assume their avatars, which happen to the be complete opposites of the teens in real life.
Starring Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black, along with Missi Pyle, Bobby Cannavale, and Nick Jonas, Jumanji smashes into theaters on December 20.
