He Puts A Bunch Of Crayons In The Oven. A Few Steps Later – I’m Awestruck By The Result
Crayons on the table, in the drawer, and often on the floor — if there are children in your home, chances are you have more crayons than you’ll ever need. Moms open your purses; dads turn out your pockets, how many crayons are lurking even after the kids have long left the room?
What can you do with all those crayons?
We know crayons are one of the best and most favorite pieces of childhood. The colorful, common crayon we know and love has been around for more than 100 years. Today, one very creative dad has transformed crayons into something amazingly beautiful and completely functional. Popular YouTube personality and crafty dad Peter Brown is known for his fabulous yet slightly wacky DIY projects that he creates using unique materials. He has now taken common crayons and created something stunning in a most unusual way.
Here’s the deal — Peter melts crayons to form a rainbow crayon bud vase. Seriously. He makes a vase you can use for real or silk flowers from melted crayons. It’s pretty brilliant. I’ll admit I was skeptical when I heard about this, but once I saw his video, I was blown away. Check out the video that Peter has created to share his process for creating a totally one-of-a-kind rainbow crayon bud vase.
So how many crayons does it take to make a rainbow crayon bud vase? Apparently, it takes four boxes of 64-count crayons or a total of 256 crayons in all colors.
After removing the paper wrappers from each crayon (Peter has a cool trick on the video for quickly removing all those wrappers) he arranges the crayons in a loaf pan. In case you were wondering this is not a quick craft, it does take about three hours to melt 256 crayons. It also takes quite a bit of cooling time for those melted crayons to solidify into a brick. Yes, that’s a single, solid rainbow-colored, crayon brick!
And then the real magic begins to happen.
Peter transforms that solid rainbow-colored crayon brick into a rainbow crayon bud vase using his regular shop tools. From a drill press to a wood lathe, this dad uses his mad shop skills to handcraft a stunning bud vase made solely from crayons — no glue, no fasteners, just CRAYONS.
The final product? A truly one-of-a-kind rainbow crayon bud vase that’s not only usable, but that looks like a piece of art. If you want to see Peter Brown work his magic, check out the video below.
