This Guy Made WHAT Out of Skateboards?
When it comes to furnishing and decorating a home, skateboards have to be one of the last things to come to mind to most individuals. When most of us think of skateboards, we associate them with a child or teenager and a fun activity for friends to do together, not as a focal piece of home decor. In fact, most people often ride them are teenagers who don’t even own their own homes or are that interested in home decor in the first place.
But as you know, what we decide to use as our inspiration for our designs is up to us. Everyone has their own specific interests and tastes, and our furniture and home decor will reflect that. Whether it is eclectic art, cozy cabin style furnishings or any number of things in between. What s true for all tastes, however, is that this decor can rise to even greater heights if you actually build the furniture yourself, and that is exactly what this DIY king did.
In a world where a lot of people make their own customized, one of a kind furniture creations, this has to be one of the most personal and amazing I have ever seen. This man was the owner of a bunch of skateboards he collected and one day decided to turn his entire skateboard collection into extremely cool and colorful rainbow table. His process began by removing the grip tape off the boards (which can be fairly tedious), sanding them a little and cutting them up in his band saw into thin strips, about two inches wide.
After slicing all the boards down to size, he glued all the thin strips of the board together in a color combination that looked the best to him. Once the glue dried and all of the pieces were squared up, it slowly began to take shape and look incredible as well.
After putting it all together, he started the multi-hour process of sanding all the pieces together down to a silky smooth finish, to ensure that no one gets any new splinters on his custom coffee table. After coating the outside in wood to give it a better look, the masterpiece was almost complete.
With it looking almost done, he decided to stain the table to really make the colors pop, and boy did it ever work. The rainbow color scheme and flow of the table are super unique and very attractive to look at and you would never guess it was made out of skateboards if you were to walk into his house and see it. After adding some legs to the table it was ready for use and to be a huge conversation starter.
This just goes to show how beneficial thinking outside the box can be. If he were to just go out and buy a table, it would not have nearly the meaning or look of this customized table. But thankfully, he wasn’t afraid of a little hard work and now has an amazing table to show for it.
