Singing Christmas carols may have been too hot to handle for the Danish National Chamber Orchestra.
Chili Klaus, a YouTube star and self-proclaimed “chili enthusiast,” is known for challenging random people to eat super hot peppers. For his latest stunt, he enlisted the Danish National Chamber Orchestra and challenged them to eat ghost peppers during one of their concerts.
The choir members gracefully agreed to stop mid-song and eat a ghost pepper during their rendition of “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” Ghost peppers are known for being some of the hottest peppers in the world.
Once the choir members ate the ghost peppers, they attempted to continue on like nothing had happened. However, the peppers easily lived up to their reputation and caused many of the singers to struggle throughout the rest of the performance.
It did not take long for tears to start streaming down the boys’ faces. Along with the tears, many of them turned bright red from the heat.
Check out the full performance below.
While this may seem a bit cruel for the little ones in the choir, it’s worth noting that they were given peppers with a very mild heat.
“I graduated the chili peppers a bit,” Klaus told BuzzFeed. “The mildest for the youngest boys and the hottest for the grown-ups — to make a common experience for all of them.”
As soon as the song was over, the singers ran off stage to deal with the pain. Many parents were waiting backstage with “milk, ice cream, and bread.”
