Here Is Everything You Should Keep in Your Survival Bags
While everything in your life is going swimmingly right now, something could happen out of nowhere that turns your world on your head. Whether it be an earthquake, a flood, a tornado or any other disaster, you never know when you will need to evacuate your home, quickly.
That is why you really should keep a “bug-out” bag somewhere in your home. These bags contain everything you need to survive for a couple of days and are designed so they can ready to be grabbed and taken in seconds if you need to evacuate quickly. The term “bug out” dates back to the Korean War that has been passed down.
While this seems like a great idea, it can be tough to narrow down what you should actually include that is important enough to bring. Thankfully, an Imgur user has created a list that has you covered. Here are the nine things you should bring.
1. Water
Out of anything you need, this is clearly the most important. Without water, you die, simple as that. And humans should be taking in three liters of water per day. So make sure to keep at least a few liters or water in this pack at all times.
2. Water Purification
If you find yourself far from civilization and run out of the water you better have a water purification kit. Water found in the wild should not be consumed unless it is first purified, as it could contain numerous harmful materials and toxins.
3. Food
When it comes to food, don’t worry about balance, it is more about surviving than being nutritious. Canned, nonperishable food and snacks are must-haves and make sure it is things that will you up as opposed to things that just taste good.
4. Cooking Equipment
It’s possible that if your food runs out, you may need to be able to cook your own. In addition to maybe a pot and pan, make sure to also bring some utensils, but keep them light.
5. Clothing and Shelter
This one is obvious as, if you are out longer than a few hours, you will likely need different kinds of clothes and something to protect you from the elements. Warm and weather resistant clothing should be packed and something like a tarp, sleeping bag or even small tent could be included for shelter.
6. Fire
While you may not think you’ll need fire, you just never know, and it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Bringing things like lighters, matches and tinder will make sure you never get cold.
7. First Aid
Injuries can happen at any time and you need to be prepared to prevent infection or the worsening of injuries. You can find and purchase first aid kits anywhere and they’ll contain bandages, gauze, ointments and more.
8. Tools
You never know what kind of environment you will be in or what kind of problems you could face, which is why you should have some tools. Things like a knife and a multi-tool are must haves because you never know when you might need them.
9. Lighting
This one is important if you are stranded outdoors or the power goes out. Things like a flashlight and long lasting candles should be enough to keep you lit up for a few days.
