Ice cream is a delicious summer treat for a hot day. It can cool you down, delight your tastebuds, and put you in a good mood. It’s also the perfect treat to serve at birthday parties, picnics, and other gatherings.
Unfortunately, not all ice cream is created equally and that can mean a hard, clumpy, and freezer burned treat when what you really want is a nice soft and scoopable helping.
We’re also on the lookout for better ways to serve food and this time we have an ice cream hack that will keep your frosty treat soft and delicious.
To get started you will need one container of ice cream, in any size you choose, and a Ziploc freezer bag.
Getting started with this simple process.
Start by closing your ice cream container and then place it directly inside the freezer bag.
Next, you will need to press out all of the bags air before sealing it shut.
Once the bag is closed simply placed the frozen treat in your freezer.
Why does this trick work?
This process works because the plastic bag prevents air from the freezer from making the ice cream box too cold by cutting off its flow to the ice cream box.
Extra tip: If you don’t blast your freezer to its maximum temperature you can also keep your ice cream soft. Most freezers don’t need to be turned to “max” to properly freeze your food.
This ziploc bag trick works with ice cream, sherbert, and other treats that you want to keep from becoming overly frozen in your freezer.
There is of course the better option — Eat your entire pint or gallon of ice cream in one sitting. If you choose the gallon option we highly recommend sharing it with friends.
Quality Control
The type of ice cream you choose can also play a part in the softness of the ice cream you pull out of the freezer. While this trick will maintain your ice cream’s initial softness, it won’t soften the summertime treat any further.
Purchase a high quality ice cream that is already easy to scoop and use a ziploc bag to keep that ice cream in its store bought shape.
No More Freezer Burn
Not only will this helpful tip keep your ice cream from becoming hard — It will also stop freezer burn. Air crystalize’s and desiccates the surface of ice cream while a freezer bag will stop that process.
No more freezer burn and soft, easy to scoop ice cream? Yes please.
If you don’t have a freezer bag you can also try wrapping your ice cream in plastic wrap to at least stop freezer burn. This process is not quite as effective as a freezer bag but it works in a pinch.
