Why Did This Daycare Not Allow a Little Girl to Eat

When a parent puts their child into a daycare, they are taking a risk. While most daycares are reputable and good, they all aren’t that way. When you put the care of your child in the hands of someone else, you expect they look out for them and take care of them.

This is why the process of choosing a daycare for our children can be a long and tedious one as we look to make sure they get the best care possible.  But sometimes, things and complaints happen, which can leave parents furious with the care their child is getting. And that is exactly what happened to Yasmin Jackson and her daughter, Amari.

On one particular day, Yasmin sent Amari to daycare like every other day, with a regular packed lunch in hand. The lunch contained chicken salad, breadsticks, hummus and some fruit. But according to Amari, she wasn’t allowed to eat it. Obviously, Yasmin was outraged and wanted to know why her daughter wasn’t allowed to eat.

Disgusted, she reached out to management about the problem and was told by one of the instructors that it was because they weren’t sure if her meat was halal. Now for those who aren’t sure what that means, let me give a brief little description.

If food is to be deemed Halal, it has to be slaughtered and prepared according to the laws of Islam and the preparation of the meat is totally different than other, non-religious methods. But the problem for Yasmin was that the daycare didn’t make this restriction know anywhere on their website of anything.

And then for some reason, the school claimed that none of this even happened and that they also allow non-Halal meat as well. But after all that took place and all the back and forth, she still decided to remove her daughter from the daycare. No matter the circumstances or religious beliefs of an institution or school, it is wrong not to let a child eat her lunch.

In conclusion, it seems that there was just some small miscommunication on the guidelines at the school and the story blew up. While we may never know what really happened and the truth behind it, there is no doubt that not letting a child eat her lunch (no matter what it is) is terrible and should never happen.
