TMZ is reporting that Chester Bennington, one of the lead singers of massive rap-rock super group Linkin Park, was found dead in his L.A. County home just before 9 a.m. Pacific time from a self-inflicted hanging.
Bennington, leaves behind six children from two wives, has long struggled with substance abuse issues, and had spoken of suicide in the past. The singer was also close to Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, who died in an apparent suicide earlier this year, and whom Bennington had written a gripping open-letter to on Twitter in May. Cornell would have been celebrating his 53rd birthday the day Bennington’s body was discovered.
