There is something very sweet about working hard and saving up some money to purchase something that you’ve had your eye on for a while. But as many of you who craft and consider yourself DIY experts, you know that finding a way to make something for yourself and save money is even more rewarding.
When there is a will, there’s a way. Hundreds of DIYers and crafters have come up with unbelievably creative ways to create cool clothing, furniture and a boatload of different items. But while anyone can think up these great ideas, it takes a certain type of skills to actually be able to bring them to life.
One of the definite best skills one can have if they want to be an expert DIYer is carpentry. These skills allow you to be able to craft almost anything your heart desires. Thankfully, the woman whose work will be featured in this article has an abundance of skills when it comes to carpentry.
While she and her boyfriend were together one day, they both noticed a coffee table that they both wanted and fell in love with. It was a very cool table that looked like a winding river. Unfortunately, it was not in their price range and thus they couldn’t buy it. But instead of settling for something cheaper that they really didn’t like, this DIYer decided to make her own from scratch (using the one they love as inspiration) and surprise her boyfriend with it.
Her project began by buying two planks of wood and drawing a flowing river pattern on the planks like the one in the coffee table they loved. And using the help of the equipment at her school workshop, she cut out the designs. But she didn’t do it by hand. She put the plans into a computer program which worked in sync with a sophisticated saw to make sure the precise measurements were cut.
Once it was all cut up and looked well, she added a few legs to it and it began to take shape. And next up, was what made this coffee table about as unique as can be. She decided to add a glass panel in the table to complete the “winding river” look.
First up, she had to make sure the glass panel was professionally cut to fit the precise measurings of the table. Once that was done, she used a pretty blue colored film in order to give the glass the look of water. After that glass was added, the table was complete. However, she couldn’t enjoy her handiwork just yet.
This is because she decided to keep it hidden until Christmas, which is when she would surprise her husband with it. Of course, when the big reveal came, he was absolutely thrilled and loved it. This example just goes to show you that a little hard work can go a long way, and can also save you a ton of money too.
