The 2018 Grammy nominations have been announced, and the award ceremony is set to be filled with many surprises and historic firsts. As The Verge noted, the selections were considerably more diverse than any other time in the show’s 60-year history. For the first time ever, no white male was on the list for Album of the Year. Additionally, the Spanish-language smash “Despacito” became the first Spanish song to be nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
It’s “a wonderful reflection of our organization and how relevant and in touch and savvy our voting members are,” Recording Academy CEO Neil Portnow told Billboard.
The voting members are made of industry professionals who have creative or technical credits on at least six commercial tracks on a physical music release, or 12 credits on a digital album. In short, those voting for the Grammy nominees are songwriters, touring artists, and engineers — the very people out there creating music.
Take a look at the 2018 Grammy nominations below in the most anticipated categories. Who do you think — and hope — will win? Let us know in the comments! SHARE this list with fellow music fans — you need to know who you’re rooting for at that viewing party!
The 60th Grammy Awards ceremony takes place Jan. 28 on CBS.
