You Won’t Believe What This Woman Got On Her Walk Home From Work
Ernestina Nunez is a school custodian in St. Petersburg Florida. After losing her son, Ernestia moved to St. Petersburg looking for work. She found a job at a school as a custodian. But the problem was, the walk to work was over a mile long, each way.
Ernestina still found the courage to make it to work every day despite with the long, tiresome walk. Not only is it hard enough for most people to make it to work on time while having to travel by foot such a long distance, but having to go through the grief of losing a son made it all the more difficult.
Ernestina’s son was her best friend. He was all that she had in the world. Ernestina’s son, Daniel Nunez, had enlisted in the marines and was sent off to war. After returning home, he struggled some time from PTSD. Ernestia describes doing everything possible to help him through it, but he didn’t make it. Unfortunately, Daniel took his life after being unable to make it through the disease that affects many of those returning from war.
Richard Newberry, a local mechanic, learned this story after stopping Ernestia one day while she was on her long walk home from work. He said he saw Ernestia walk by his shop every single day, first to work, and then home, and was interested in possibly selling her a car.
So he decided to stop her one day and offer her a great deal on an automobile. However, Ernestia simply could not afford the expense of a new car, as it was difficult enough for her to try and make a living for herself.
Richard Newberry first offered to sell it for $600. She still couldn’t afford it. Then he offered $300. She still could not find enough funds to purchase it for that amount. After being touched by her story, Richard decided the best option was to offer her the car for the low price of $0.00.
At first, Nunez refused to take the car. She couldn’t believe his offer, and refused at first. Eventually, she agreed and took the key to her new car. The only terms she has to agree to is that she’ll get her own tags and registration for the car. A fund has been set up in her name in order to help raise money for them.
Richard Newberry found a special connection to the story Ernestina told about her son. He once found himself in Ernestina’s shoes, struggling and being unable to afford a car himself. Richard used to be homeless and struggled greatly through poverty. He arose through the challenges, however, and was able to eventually start his own business.
Richard took his own experiences to make something good for someone else. Ernestina claims that what Richard did has given her hope, and has been a gleam of light in such a dark time. If more people like Richard were around, the world would be a much better place.
