Life can be a beautiful and horrific thing at the same time. There is perhaps nothing more beautiful than the miracle of birth and the creation of life. But on the other hand, there are few things that are more heartbreaking and sad than life being tragically taken from a person. Well, the heartbreaking story you are about to read comes complete with both. It is both one of the most beautiful things you
Just as one life begins, another sometimes ends. And this is exactly what happened for Mark and Diane Augler back in 2012. Just as Diane was about to bring their child to life, Mark was battling extremely hard for his own. Mark had been diagnosed with an aggressive lung disease and he was losing a battle to this fatal disease.
As his life was coming to an end, his dying wish was to be alive to see his new daughter who’s life was just about to begin as his was coming to a close. But as his health deteriorated and his life was dwindling, it looks as if his dying wish was not going to come true.
He even brought up the idea to doctors and they said there was the potential for inducing labor two weeks early, and Diane immediately agreed. And two days later, on January 18th, the baby was born. The father got his wish and got to spend some time with his new daughter. The time together was beautiful and he and Diane spent the entire time together, with their baby, simply crying.
But now comes the sad and tragic part of the story. On the morning of January 19th (less than 24 hours after holding his baby for the first time), Mark slipped into a coma. And a few days later, on January 23rd, Mark passed away in a losing battle to his lung disease. Diane was by his side the entire time and once his breathing and heart rate began to drop, even put their new child in his arms during his final minutes of life. Mark lived a life of love and passed away next to the ones that mattered most to him, at the age of 52.
This whole thing is a shame as Diane said that Mark would have been an amazing father to their new daughter, who they decided to call Savannah. She said he was so excited for the baby and would even kiss and talk to her stomach throughout the months of her pregnancy.
If this story doesn’t almost bring you to tears something must be wrong. On one hand, it is unbelievably beautiful that this father got to spend some time with his new child. But on the other hand, the child will be left without a father and Diane without a husband. As I said when I began this article, life can be both amazing and horrific at the same time, and this story is a prime example of that.
