Unique Patio Chairs Built From Abandoned Shopping Carts
There’s a DIY lover in all of us, even the least handy. There’s something to be said for the feeling you get when you make something yourself with your own two hands. Not only can DIY projects be fun, they can be very cost-effective and eye-catching pieces to add to a home.
Sometimes the trouble with starting a DIY project is finding a good plan. Fortunately, we’ve found a great one from an Instructables user named JFabor. All that’s required to start is a drive around town to locate some shopping carts that have been abandoned.
Similar to most craft enthusiasts, JFabor always has her eyes open for interesting materials that she can use in her next projects. One day, she stumbled upon some shopping carts that had clearly been left behind. She couldn’t help but consider the design possibilities with these carts.
She took a few of the best carts home with her and decided to revitalize and repurpose them as patio chairs. Check out the pictures below to find out how she turned old shopping carts into interesting patio chairs.
Project #1 began with this red plastic shopping cart. The final product is incredibly innovative!
She began by cutting away the plastic cart from the metal pieces underneath. Then she removed the wheels from the cart. Next, she sawed the cart in half so that half of the cart could be used as a chair while the other half could be used as a matching ottoman.
The next step was to make sure the chair was as comfortable and safe as could be, so JFabor sanded down all the edges till they were smooth. For you DIY-ers at home, keep in mind that she wore a mask and goggles throughout this entire process for protection.
After reinforcing the chair with some steel rods, it was ready for use! With this cute matching ottoman in tow, JFabor turned an old shopping cart into a unique patio chair set.
On to project #2! For the second patio chair, JFabor used an all-metal cart. She began by making cuts in key locations like the front of the cart and then molding the sides and the front into arm and leg rests.
After doing the necessary cuts and molding along with removing the wheels and handlebars, this patio chair turned out possibly even nicer than the first one!
This green metal patio chair is brimming with character. If you decide to try this project out for yourself, your guests will not only love the quirky chairs but they’ll admire your ingenuity!
JFabor is an innovative and practiced DIY expert, but there’s nothing that complicated about these patio chair ideas. We hope this inspires you to let your inner DIY-er shine and try this project or another for yourself!
