This Musician Had No Idea Who Was Standing Right There During His Coffee House Performance
A ukulele player in Hawaii recently had the surprise of his life after playing the song “One Day” by Matisyahu.
You see, as fate would have it, Matisyahu happened to be in that cafe at the same time without being noticed. His secret? The popular reggae artist usually has a long beard and dark hair. Recently he shaved the flavor saver and dyed his hair bleach blonde.
The young ukulele player was caught completely off guard. He didn’t even catch wind that Matisyahu was in the room when the singer joined in the song and turned it into a duet.
The whole thing was captured on video by Matisyahu’s bassist, Stu Brooks. You can hear him laughing at certain points in the video off screen.
Once the song ends, the pair shook hands. The ukelele player is still completely unaware of the entirely unique experience he was just a part of. Once he finally realizes that he just sang Matisyahu’s hit song with the man himself he reacts appropriately. With a fist bump.
We all probably would have done the exact same thing. Actually, probably not. We’re not nearly as cool as this guy. Most of us would probably freak out and be unable to speak out of sheer excitement and disbelief.
Amazingly, the song about finding your way through rough times couldn’t have been a more prophetic track choice for the ukelele player. Both musicians ended up finding their way to the same coffee house on the same island at the same time.
Sure, it’s coincidence, but the idea is fun to think about.
More prophetic is the rediscovery of the track right now. Originally released in 2009, Matisyahu sings about being buried in the despair of the crumbling state of the world around him.
The world hasn’t gotten much better since 2009, and maybe the new life given to track right now can help inspire positivity and change. Just take the chorus of the song as a true example of finding hope in hatred, “All my life I’ve been waiting for, “I’ve been praying for, for the people to say, that we don’t wanna fight no more, there will be no more wars, and our children will play, one day.”
Matisyahu could have chosen to ignore the situation and leave the coffee shop as quickly as possible, not wanting the attention. Instead, he played the good guy card and seemed to genuinely enjoy the whole experience.
One day maybe the rest of the world will be as lucky as this young man. For right now we just have to enjoy his story. It’s a great story with a great ending.
How awesome is that? Do you have any stories like this that feel like they came straight out of a movie?
