Manhattan Resident Has No Problem With Her 90 Square Foot Apartment
When one woman decided she wanted to live in Manhattan but did not want to pay the high rent price, she was forced to take different measures to live in her dream location. New York City is known as one of the most expensive places to live but is also known as one of the greatest cities to live in, meaning that demand for apartments is also high. Many people resort to drastic measures in order to be able to live in the city, but what this woman did is much more surprising.
One woman was excited to find a 90-foot apartment just a block away from central park. The apartment consists of a main living area and a bathroom and is not much larger than most people’s walk-in closets. Through organizational skill and a positive attitude, she was able to turn this closet into a comfortable living space.
What was supposed to be one year of tiny house living turned into three years. But she still has no problem living in her 90 square foot apartment. She is a professional organizer and enjoyed the challenge she was given when forced to turn her closet sized apartment into a comfortable living space.
In order to make things work, she organized and expanded everything up. She has high ceilings that allow her to have high shelving units to store all of her belongings are. Her bed is lofted high above everything else, meaning there is plenty of space below for her other items. She stays very organized in order to utilize her very little closet space and downsized most of her clothes and books before moving in.
She says that the compromise is worth it, as she is able to have Central Park as her backyard. On her first night, she had a panic attack when she woke up, as her lofted bed is so close to the ceiling she can’t even sit up straight. But after installing an easy to use ladder and handle, the transition has been no problem for her.
She is able to have an office area, hangout area, and even a small kitchen, although it only consists of a mini fridge and toaster oven. Most of her time is spent at her desk, as she is a writer who is about to publish her first book.
She also has a studio downtown, which allows her to have a second workspace to escape the tiny house if she needs to. Aside from her writing and pro organizing, she’s also an artist whose main material she uses is shrinky dink, a type of plastic very fitting for her situation.
Despite her tiny space, she still has room to do yoga every one and a while and even hosts parties with up to nine people at one time! Her positive outlook and commitment to living in an area she loves helps her cope with having such a small living space.
