Just LOOK at this STUNNING Spiral Staircase
Haven’t you always wanted to be one of those people who can easily turn pieces of trash into beautiful, creative pieces of functional artwork? We’ve had our eyes on this project for awhile now, and we’re sure you’ll appreciate it too!
Thanks to the advent of power tools, working with wood isn’t nearly as laborious as it used to be. Still, though, creating a piece as complex as the one we’re about to show you will take a good bit of time and effort. But, it’s worth it. We’re thinking that this would be a beautiful centerpiece in anyone’s modern-styled home or apartment!
Designer Ben Uyeda created a GORGEOUS spiral staircase for his home. He used a CNC machine to cut out 3/4th-inch plywood sheets. He shared the blueprint for these on his HomeMade Modern website.
He stacked twelve of them, one on top of the other, to build a gradual incline that is both functional and beautiful! Plus, with a little attention to detail, you can make your staircase super safe.
Of course, you can cut out all the wood you want, but if you don’t have anywhere to put it, all your work is fruitless. You need a base! For his staircase, Uyeda had a thick, thirteen-foot tall pole welded to a metal plate that he installed in his home. If you’re looking at doing something similar at your own house, you should consider bringing in a structural engineer to make sure it’s all safe and secure!
Next, Uyeda stacked the individual pieces of plywood to create a strong, layered look. No Gorilla Glue here! He had to use clamps and a specially formulated wood glue to keep the pieces in place. We can only imagine how long this process took! But, taking the time was definitely worth it in order to build a safe staircase. You know what they say about an ounce of prevention!
To finish up his construction, Uyeda added a platform to connect his staircase with his outdoor patio. He followed the same wood glue process to secure the platform in place. He then painted the underside of the platform with a dark turquoise color to provide an accent and a pop of color into his home!
He then sealed and stained the wood. This is important in order to guarantee the longevity of the staircase. Plus, it makes it look shiny and beautiful! You’ve come so far with your staircase- don’t give up now by forgetting to use the sealant. Select your stain color carefully so that it fits in well with the rest of your home.
Modern technology has made it to where we can do incredible things. No, we can’t all be like Ben Uyeda. We can’t all possess his talent and skill, but we can sure be hopeful! For now, we’re going to leave this incredible piece of artistic mastery to the experts, but if you want to give it a shot, we would love to see the results!
