Just Look at What They Did With This Old School Bus!
What do you see in the picture above? An old school bus, right? Nothing more and nothing less.
Though this appears to be a lowly bus that has been retired from its days of carting children back and forth from school, it is actually so much more. Around the country, carpenters have taken up the art of transforming yellow school buses into luxury homes.
Due to the incredibly versatile nature of these “houses,” people can customize their bus as much as they want. Some of what they’ve done is truly impressive! Take a look…
With enough thrift shopping and careful budgeting, you can turn your school bus house into nearly anything you want. Many designers have chosen to use rustic cabinetry and stoves. This particular home, shown above, features a cast-iron oven and wood cabinets. Having plenty of storage is key when you live in a home this small!
Cleanliness is also important! Not keeping a home like this clean could easily lead to it feeling messy and cluttered. Obviously, when you’re living in 245 square foot space things are tight!
To help save space, the owners have crammed storage into every nook and cranny of their home. No inch of free space goes wasted!
That doesn’t mean they don’t have any decorations, though! The owners have added their own personal flair to the home through the use of flowers, vases, lights, and speakers. By keeping the decor to a minimum, they can maximize living space without sacrificing their own style.
The coolest part of this school bus-house is the fact that its owners can use it to explore the country. They have traveled up and down the West Coast, across to New England, and through the dry lands of Texas. One thing is for certain- it’s versatile!
To accommodate for their busy lifestyles, the owners built a small office space inside their bus. With a WiFi hotspot and plenty of desk space, they can see the country while also staying up to date on their work. Sounds like a pretty good deal!
The bus is entirely insulated. This means its residents can be kept warm and toasty (or cool and dry) no matter what the conditions are outside. With all the travel they do, this is incredibly important.
Homes like this one are incredibly inexpensive. They often cost the owners less than $2,000, and their sturdy construction will keep them running for years to come. Obviously, this is a huge benefit in our world of rising interest rates and a struggling housing market. But, moving into a school bus will save more than money.
By recycling an old bus into your home, you are also helping to preserve the environment. Making sustainability efforts is important towards protecting our earth from the hazardous effects of global warming and climate change.
Not many people will look at that dusty old school bus and see a house. Fortunately, though, some have. Their creativity and ingenuity can inspire us all, save them money, and protect the environment as we move forward!
