Dogs are simply amazing. They are always there for us when we are down, offer us unconditional love at all times and protect us. We are not worthy of these brilliant animals, yet they continue to be by our sides. We often hear stories about dogs saving their owners from some type of harm, and those stories are proof that dogs are more than just our pets, they are part of the family.
And one story that recently caught our eye about a dog doing something amazing was a story out of Baltimore, Maryland. In this story, a dog is a hero in a stunning rescue of an infant child.
The day began just like any other for Erika Poremski. She was at home taking care of her baby, Vivian and their dog, Polo, was nearby. But Poremski had to make a quick run out to her car and in the minute or so that she was gone, something completely horrific occurred.
Somehow, when Erika had gone out to the car for no more than a minute, a fire had started and the house was in flames. Worst of all, baby Vivian was still inside. Erika heard her baby crying and her motherly instincts took over, she began to yell for help and do her best to kick in any windows and doors to save her child. But unfortunately, she couldn’t get in and neither could any of her neighbors.
Once firefighters appeared on the scene, they had figured out that Vivian was trapped on the second floor. They say as they made their way into her room, they saw an amazing and surprising sight. Remember the family dog, Polo, well he was now acting as a shield, laying on top of Vivian to protect her from the smoke and flames as best he could. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
The dog had stayed with her to protect her in the bedroom, even though he could have run and escaped out of the door. Unfortunately, Polo passed away but will never be forgotten for the hero, he is. If he would have just ran out the house, baby Vivian would have surely died. But miraculously, she survived and was able to be revived thanks to the dog.
While alive, she was not in great condition and suffered from a lot of burns from the fire. Even her mother, Erika, suffered burns on her face and hands from trying repeatedly to get in the house to save her little girl. Erika is obviously deeply saddened by the loss of her dog but is forever grateful for him as he likely saved the life of her child.
Vivian is still in the hospital being monitored closely but is expected to recover, although she is in serious condition at this point. And not only was there injuries and the loss of their dog, the Poremski family now has been displaced by the fire as it devastated their home and their belongings. A GoFundMe page has been created to help them get back on their feet: https://www.gofundme.com/ErikanViv
