After footage first appeared at a closed-door screening at San Diego Comic Con this year, Marvel finally released the first Avengers: Infinity War trailer on Wednesday. And it did not disappoint.
Infinity War is the culmination of Marvel Studios’ decade-long storyline, bringing all the superheroes from their cinematic universe together. Characters in The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy have found themselves unknowably linked to Infinity Stones, powerful gems sought by an enigmatic alien known as Thanos. Now, with Thanos on the verge of possessing the Infinity Stones, the fate of the universe hangs in the balance.
Avengers: Infinity War brings together all the familiar faces of the franchise, including Robert Downey Jr.(Iron Man), the trio of Chrises: Evans (Captain America); Hemsworth (Thor); and Pratt (Star Lord); Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Sebastian Stan (Bucky/Winter Soldier), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Paul Bettany (Vision), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki). Also appearing in the film are Karen Gillan (Nebula), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Paul Rudd (Ant Man), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), and Pom Klementieff (Mantis), with the voice talents of Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon) and Vin Diesel (Groot) reprising their roles.
Thanos, who had so far been teased in snippets throughout various MCU films, is played by Josh Brolin.
Thanos won’t be the only baddie that the heroes have to face, as the villain has a notorious group of henchmen known as the Black Order who help do his bidding.
There is also speculation as to if Academy Award-winner Brie Larson will make her MCU debut as Captain Marvel in Infinity War. Larson has her solo debut as the titular character in cinemas on March 8, 2019.
Avengers: Infinity War is the first of a two-part storyline that will continue into the as-yet untitled Avengers 4, set for release a year after Infinity War in May 2019.
Watch the first Avengers: Infinity War trailer below. You have some time to wait until it hits theaters on May 4, 2018, but don’t worry: Marvel has you covered with the upcoming release of Black Panther on Feb. 16, 2018.
