The Beautiful Note He Wrote To His Soulmate That Was Dying From Anorexia Will Make You Cry
Anorexia itself might not be relatable for everyone, but losing someone under any circumstances is incredibly difficult and extremely relatable.
Many aren’t aware of the seriousness of anorexia, thinking perhaps that it just means a person eats too little. In actuality, this eating disorder is much more complex.
Anorexia, or anorexia nervosa as it’s technically named, is summed up by a person feeling that they’re extremely overweight even though in reality they’re very much the opposite. This leads to a fear of gaining more weight, severe food restriction, and a powerful desire to be thin.
People suffering from anorexia often weigh themselves incessantly, and some even force themselves to lose weight by taking laxatives or vomiting. Unfortunately, the issue isn’t as simple as being underweight. Anorexia can easily lead to infertility, damage to the heart, and osteoporosis among other things.
All of these facts are very familiar to Emma Stokes her struggle for years. Emma is now 26 years old, and she’s battled anorexia along with bulimia. Her weight has nosedived to 93 lbs, which is a result of her 6-hour exercise routine every day paired with the fact that she eats only lettuce and small amounts of cereal.
Emma is a dance teacher, and at one point she was finding it very difficult to even do that. “I literally used to have to drag myself out of bed, go teach a class, set my alarm, go to sleep, and then repeat,” she commented. “My body was completely shutting down.”
Emma’s boyfriend, Chris Weir, has felt helpless as he’s watched her struggle with this disorder for the past two years. She’s received help from doctors, dieticians, friends, and family, but it hasn’t been easy.
Chris finally reached a point of desperation after Emma returned from the hospital last year and seemed to be doing a little better. Chris wanted nothing more than to continue the improvements till she was back to a hundred percent. He decided to take some time and show Emma everything good that she had to live for.
The result was a list of 10 reasons why he wanted Emma to recover. Some of the items ranged from the comical like getting her “bum back” to the more serious like being a “wonderful mother.”
Some of the other items included “I want her to realize her true beauty both on the inside and out.” These beautiful words continued with “I want her to be happy, to live a life and not just exist.” Finally, Chris was building to his big surprise when he wrote “I want her to look and feel great on her wedding day…” followed by, “Please turn over!”
On the back of the list was a beautiful ring and the question “will you marry me?” Emma later said that question was what helped her to turn her life completely around.
“I do truly believe that his list helped save me,” she commented. “He’s never given up on me. He told me that he wanted to marry me, even at my worst, and I thought, ‘I’ve found someone special here.’”
The couple tied the knot a year after the proposal, and Emma was a much healthier 107 lbs. She commented it was the best day of her life and that her recovery is still continuing with much success.
