Amazing Paralyzed Woman Walks Down The Aisle At Her Wedding And Stuns Guests
It’s hard to imagine what it would be like to be paralyzed if you’re not, but from the comments of many dealing with paralysis, it’s clear that they share the dream of one day walking again. For most, that’s just a dream. Some, however, have made that dream a reality.
Jacquie Goncher is from Georgia, US, and she’s 25 years-old. She’s a beautiful woman with an incredible outlook on life, which is necessary since she’s been paralyzed since 2008.
Jacquie was paralyzed after suffering a swimming accident. The incident completely shattered her C5 bone and injured her entire spinal cord. C5 is the fifth vertebrae of the neck and an area that is very susceptible to injury.
Her doctors had discouraging news for her after her surgery: she would never be able to walk again. We can only imagine the effect this had on Jacquie, who at the time was only 17 years-old. That’s a time in life when it seems like the whole world is in front of you, so no doubt Jacquie took the news hard.
As cheesy as it may sound, love was what helped Jacquie to walk again. As soon as she got engaged to Andy Goncher, her now-husband, she began rigorous workouts at the gym along with regular physical therapy sessions. She was committed to one goal: walking down the aisle at her wedding.
Setting a goal can be a powerful motivator, and clearly, Jacquie was not one to set a goal lightly. She had every intention of walking again, despite everything her doctors had told her.
As Jacquie rolled up to the aisle of her wedding, her guests had no expectations except for her to roll the rest of the way to her groom, but Jacquie and Andy knew otherwise. Everyone was completely stunned when Jacquie stood up from her wheelchair, and with the support of her parents, walked down the aisle towards her husband-to-be.
It took a year of hard work and grueling sessions at the gym and therapy, but Jacquie was able to achieve her goal. Not only did she achieve that goal, but she was able to endure 4 hours of standing for the rest of the wedding festivities. She was even able to enjoy her first dance with her husband on her feet.
“I really wanted to completely enjoy my wedding without the wheelchair,” Jaquie said. “Walking down the aisle was incredible, but actually being able to stand and dance for my entire wedding is what really mattered most to me.”
Jacquie’s story is an encouraging one, and we hope her physical therapy continues to help her recover and improve.
Although it may not always be possible for a paralyzed person to walk again, Jacquie’s story is an incredible example of what can be possible when you set your mind to something. Even when the experts tell you that something is impossible, it’s up to each person to accept it or not.
Please share this heartwarming story with your family and friends and hopefully it motivate them to set a goal of their own!
